Alexander Mies is the best Junior in the VLN series

With his seventh class win in the total of nine races, Alexander Mies has won the VLN Junior Trophy. “That was the minimum of what I wanted to achieve this year. It’s a pity that we didn’t win the overall championship as well”, said a happy Mies after the final round last weekend. Actually it would have been enough for him to finish within the points but only a victory counted for Mies at the final as well. His team mates Jens Moetefindt and Adam Christodoulou, too, did their best to bring Mies on top of the podium again at this last race prizegiving ceremony of the year.

And yet they did not have a perfect start of the race. The BMW M3 GT4 of the team Bonk Motorsport did not really find the right pace under the prevailing, difficult conditions. “You must imagine that we have been racing in a more or less relaxed way throughout the whole season and now, at the finale, nothing was running really smoothly”, he said afterwards. Smaller fights with one or another competitor again and again spoiled fast lap times. The team, however, always remained in close contact to the leaders.

Things turned out to become a little better from mid-race and the driver trio was able to closed up to the leading Aston Martin. “Our strategy was brilliant once again and the car was perfectly prepared”, said Mies with a compliment to the staff of Bonk Motorsport. The decisive attack was then started in the last race hour and Mies’ team mate Christodoulou went into the lead of the field. This lead totally matched Alexander Mies’ expectations who wanted under all circumstances to win that final race, too.

With the class win, the race driver from Heiligenhaus/ Germany scored another 9 points for the junior classification in the overall standings. After the usual deletion of the worst result Mies has now an advance of 10.03 points over the second placed driver. “I am of course also a little proud to win with such a clear advance”, said Mies. With the total of 65.65 points, he finished in tenth place overall in the VLN series. If those drivers who have jointly competed in one car are grouped together, Mies is even fifth. “Even though I originally started the season to fight for the overall championship, this is still a fantastic result for me”, said Mies.

He is nevertheless already looking ahead onto the year 2014. “I do not know yet in which car I will be sitting next year but I definitely wish to fight for the title then”, announces the fastest rookie of the year. It is yet some time to go through the winter break. The new VLN season will start end of March.
