Dirk Werner has won the attractive Porsche Cup as most successful driver of a private Porsche race car. He was awarded this special prize offered by the Porsche AG by Dr. Wolfgang Porsche, supervisory board director of the Porsche AG, at the season final ceremony “Night of Champions” in the Porsche Museum.
In addition to the challenge cup, the race driver from Kissenbrück receives a Porsche 911 GT3 which is worth 120.000 Euros. Last year, Werner had to admit a narrow defeat by Alex Davison from Australia. As Porsche Cup winner, Werner joins the lists of world class drivers such as Jochen Mass, Klaus Ludwig, Bernd Schneider, Bob Wollek, Henri Pescarolo and Marc Lieb.
At the classical long distance race, the 24 Hour Race at the Nürburgring, the 28 years old driver took the chequered flag together with his team mates Emmanuel Collard, Wolf Henzler and Richard Lietz in their Porsche 911 GT3 Cups S entered by Manthey Racing into third position. Werner won three races of the endurance racing championship Nürburgring for the team or Mamerow Racing.
In addition, Dirk Werner, together with Leh Keen, won the drivers’ championship of the Grand-Am Series in a 911 GT3 Cup entered by the Team Farnbacher Loles Racing. Due to four victories in the season, Porsche won the constructors’ championship and Farnbacher Loles Racing the team title. The Carrera Cup champion of the year 2006 is thus the first European who was able to win the Grand-Am Series for the second time after his title win in 2007. Dirk Werner who lives in Lower Saxony also competed in four races of the American Le Mans Series together with Porsche works driver Wolf Henzler.
